Recently we asked you to take action on SB914 and HB1422 prior to their committee hearings; Take Action now to ask the Senate and House committees to pass these bills!
These bills protect our genetic integrity by banning discrimination based on refusal to undergo a genetic procedure.
Maryland’s SB914 and HB1422 prohibit discrimination in employment, education, public accommodations, commercial leasing, and housing based on a person’s refusal to undergo a genetic procedure. These bills are now awaiting votes in the Senate Judicial Proceedings Committee and the House Health and Government Operations Committee.
Maryland law already protects your genetic privacy, and these bills would recognize your right to maintain your own genetic integrity by prohibiting unwanted genetic procedures. This will protect you from both existing procedures and newly developed technologies that can alter your genetic materials.
